Fátima Bosch Fernández of Mexico has been crowned Miss Universe 2025, triumphing in Bangkok at the 74th edition of the world‑renowned pageant. Her victory was not only a personal achievement but also a symbolic moment in a competition marked by controversy, solidarity, and resilience.
A Historic Win
Bosch, 25, from Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico, emerged victorious after competing against more than 120 contestants from around the globe. She received the crown from outgoing Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark, during the finale held at the Impact Challenger Hall in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The final placements saw Miss Thailand Praveener Singh as first runner‑up and Miss Venezuela Stephany Adriana Abasali Nasser in third place. Contestants from the Philippines and Ivory Coast rounded out the top five.
Overcoming Controversy
Bosch’s journey to the crown was far from smooth. Earlier in the competition, she was publicly insulted by a pageant executive, who referred to her as “dumb” during a sash ceremony. The remark sparked outrage, leading Bosch and several fellow contestants to stage a walkout in protest.
This act of defiance quickly went viral, transforming Bosch into a symbol of strength and dignity. Her willingness to stand up against disrespect resonated with audiences worldwide and reshaped the narrative of the pageant.
Her Message and Vision
Following her win, Bosch emphasized that she wants to be remembered as “a person that changed a little bit the prototype of what is a Miss Universe and a real person that gives the heart.” She has also spoken about her purpose: to serve and to use her platform to amplify voices, particularly those of women and girls fighting for causes.
Beyond pageantry, Bosch is known as a fashion designer and advocate for neurodiversity, adding depth to her role as Miss Universe
Cultural Impact
Her victory sparked celebrations across Mexico, with supporters waving flags and cheering as she was announced the winner. Many observers see her triumph as a turning point for the Miss Universe competition, highlighting how contestants can use their platforms to challenge outdated norms and promote inclusivity.
